The Water & Sewer Commissioners conducted a Public Hearing on the Water & Sewer rates on Thursday June 20, 2024.  After consideration, the Water & Sewer Commissioners, based on analysis and recommendations from staff, voted that water rates will remain unchanged for the upcoming fiscal year 2025. However, to continue maintaining and improving our essential sewer infrastructure, sewer rates will see a modest increase of 2.5%. Under this model, the combined water and sewer costs for an average family (12,000 cubic feet per year) would be increased by 1.18% or $6.35 per quarter.

“The decision to hold water rates steady while making a slight adjustment to sewer rates reflects our balanced approach to managing the Town’s utilities,” said Rob Dever, Director of Operations. “Our goal is to ensure that we can continue to provide high-quality services without placing a significant financial burden on our residents.”

The rates for Water and Sewer are set to support the maintenance and improvements of Danvers’ infrastructure as well as the day-to-day operations needed to provide Danvers customers with treated drinkable water.

Residents and businesses will see the new sewer rates reflected in their bills starting in July 2024. The Town remains committed to transparency and efficiency in its operations and will continue to seek ways to manage costs effectively.

FY2025 Electric Rates

On June 25, 2024, the Municipal Light Board discussed the electric rates for the remainder of 2024. Effective July 1, 2024, the average residential electric bill, based on an average usage of 750 kWh per month, will decrease by approximately 9.3%, which equates to a monthly savings of $11.25. This is due to a decrease in the Purchase Power/Fuel Adjustment (PPFA) rates.

The new PPFA rates are as follows:

  • Residential: $0.050 per kWh
  • All Other Customers: $0.058 per kWh

These new rates represent a significant decrease from the previous fiscal year’s PPFA rates, which were:

  • Residential: $0.067 per kWh
  • All Other Customers: $0.073 per kWh

“Danvers Electric is committed to providing affordable and reliable electric service to our community,” said Clint Allen, Acting Utility Director, “We are thrilled to pass on these savings to our residents and businesses, especially during these challenging economic times.”

Customers can expect to see the reduced rates reflected in their bills starting in July 2024. The rate decrease is a result of careful planning, efficient management of resources, and favorable market conditions that have allowed the town to secure lower costs for power purchases.
