Stay Cool in Salem!
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme and excessive heat warning for our region for today and tomorrow – please limit your outside activities during the daytime hours and exercise care during these extreme conditions – children and pets must not be left in vehicles for any length of time. Please check on your family, friends and neighbors, especially the elderly, and if you need any assistance contact public safety on the non-emergency line at 978-744-1212.
For those who need a place to cool off, please note the following options:
- The Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center at 401 Bridge Street is available as a cooling center today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday, 8:00am through 7:00pm;
- The Fire Department has scheduled two “Soak The Kids” events for tomorrow, the day with the highest predicted temperatures. Tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 6/24) at Forest River Park at 11:00am and then at Salem Common at 1:30pm the Fire Department will spray down attendees with fire hoses;
- The Forest River Pool is open tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24 from 1:00-6:00pm for open swim;
- Splash pads at Mary Jane Lee Park and outside the Forest River Pool are both open.
