College Baseball: Endicott Sweeps a Doubleheader from Salem State – Game Details

BEVERLY The No. 3 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team swept Salem State, 5-1 and 11-3, in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday evening at North Field.

GAME ONE: Endicott 5, Salem State 1

WP (1-0): Charlie Hale (Brookline, N.H.) — 4.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 KLP (1-1): Brock Pare (Lowell) — 3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Brendan O’Neil (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood) both homered to highlight the Gulls.

In the first inning, O’Neil hit a two-run tape-measure shot to right field to cap a three-run frame.

Wladkowski followed with a two-run homer of his own in the third, giving Endicott a 5-1 lead on the scoreboard.

The junior second baseman also opened the scoring in the game with an RBI groundout (4-3) before O’Neil’s blast in the first.

On the bump, Hale picked up his first career win in relief, not allowing an extra-base hit in the appearance.

Hale stranded a trio of runners in scoring position — including an inherited triple when he entered the game in the third — and spun a pair of 1-2-3 frames (5th/6th).

He punctuated his outing with a strikeout swinging in the seventh to thwart a potential Vikings rally with runners at first and second.

Chris Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass.) finished out the last two innings (2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) to secure the victory.

GAME TWO: Endicott 11, Salem State 3

WP (1-0): Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.) — 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 KLP (0-1): Bobby Jellison (Salem) — 6.2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Endicott used a four-run frame to help complete the sweep.

Danny MacDougall (Taunton) broke open the deadlocked contest when he sprayed an opposite-field double to right for a 4-3 lead.

Two batters later, O’Neil launched a three-run no-doubter to deep right field, seizing all momentum in the contest.

Endicott added four more runs in the eighth on a MacDougall sac fly (8-3), a double steal of home (9-3), a Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton) RBI single through the ride side, and a run-producing double to right center by Wladkowski.
