Coast Guard, partner agencies search for possible person in the water near Cape Elizabeth, Main

BOSTON – Coast Guard crews are searching for an 80-year-old man possibly in the water after locating his 33-foot sailboat Tarrier aground Thursday near Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

At around 6:15 p.m. Coast Guard watchstanders were notified of the unmanned sailboat, which was found by a local fire department.

It was reported that the sailboat’s sails were up and a skiff was in tow, but no one was aboard the vessel.

The search includes the following Coast Guard assets:

-An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane from Air Station Cape Cod

-An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod

-A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Station South Portland

-Coast Guard Cutter Amberjack

Other agencies searching include: Maine Marine Patrol, the Cape Elizabeth water Extraction Team, and the Scarborough Fire Department.
