Coast Guard, local authorities suspend case for person in the water south of Gloucester Harbor

GLOUCESTER – The Coast Guard and local authorities suspended the search Wednesday for the missing fisherman who was swept out to sea at Rafes Chasm Park.

The Coast Guard and local authorities searched approximately 112 miles through the night from Old House Cove to Rafes Chasm Park yielding no results.

Initially, members from the Boston police department notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Gloucester at about 2:50 p.m. yesterday, reporting two people were fishing on the rocks and were swept out to sea. One of the fishermen made it back to shore safely, but lost sight of his fishing partner, Manoel Desoza.

– Coast Guard Cutter Moray, homeported in Jonesport, Maine

– Massachusetts State Police

– Massachusetts Environmental Police

– Gloucester Harbormaster
