Coast Guard, local authorities search for person in the water south of Gloucester Harbor

GLOUCESTER — The Coast Guard and local authorities are searching for a man who was fishing on the rocks at Rafes Chasm Park Tuesday and was swept out to sea.

Members from the Boston police department notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Gloucester at about 2:50 p.m. reporting two people were fishing on the rocks and were swept out to sea. One of the fishermen made it back to shore safely, but lost sight of his fishing partner. The missing man is reported to be in his early 30’s wearing blue jeans and black and white sneakers.

A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Station Gloucester, and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod launched to search.
