SALEM, MA – The City of Salem is sharing the following updates about COVID-19 vaccination efforts in the community. Additional information about COVID-19 vaccines in Salem can be found at www.salem.com/vaccine. As of Thursday, February 25th, 6,681 Salem residents have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccine data is published weekly in the City’s Local Data Dashboard, available at www.salem.com/covid.
- The Commonwealth has not confirmed if they will provide vaccine for this coming week’s clinic at Salem State University’s South Campus, therefore appointments for this site for the week of March 1st will not be opened on Saturday February 27th. If vaccine doses are supplied by the state for this site, the City will announce it and appointments will be made available at www.salem.com/vaccine.
- Salem Together has launched a taxicab voucher program for residents who lack transportation access to their scheduled vaccine appointment. The vouchers are intended only for those residents for whom transportation is a true hardship and they are only available to Salem residents. Vouchers may be used for a roundtrip between a Salem address and any clinic located in Essex County or between Salem and Boston, including in Boston. To apply for a voucher, send an email with your name, Salem address, and the date/time/location of your appointment to together@salem.com, with “Taxi Voucher” in the subject line or call 978-619-5612 and leave a voicemail with the same information and your telephone number.
- The City’s registration system for medically homebound residents who will require at-home vaccination has been extended through Friday, March 5th. Any resident who is homebound or bedbound due to medical reasons can complete the registration form at www.salem.com/homebound or request a hard copy by calling the Council on Aging at (978) 744-0924. Please note that the City does not have vaccine doses available to provide vaccinations to registrants at this time; this is simply to provide contact information so that when vaccine is available for this population, it can be provided as quickly as possible.
- The Commonwealth has notified the Salem Housing Authority (SHA) and the Board of Health that it will be providing their first allocation of vaccine doses for qualifying SHA tenants around March 1st. SHA and Health staff will be distributing information to its tenants about when and where vaccine administration will take place. If you have questions, please call 978-744-4431 and use the links in the forthcoming notification from the SHA to register for your vaccine.
- Salem residents over the age of 65 or with two or more qualifying medical conditions and who work in Lynn are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, subject to availability, at the Lynn Community Health Center’s clinic at Lynn Tech. - Many hospital and healthcare providers will resume providing COVID-19 vaccines on or after March 1st. For most providers, they will contact eligible patients directly to schedule appointments. If you have questions, you should contact your healthcare provider directly or look for information from them being sent out via mail, email, text message, and app this week and in the coming days.
