City of Salem Fall Street Sweeping Schedule – Starting Monday Through November

SALEM – Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll announced this past week that fall street sweeping will begin in residential neighborhoods in Salem on Monday and run through Friday, December 2.

“As we head into the fall season it’s time for our seasonal city-wide street sweeping operation,” said Mayor Driscoll. “I encourage residents to check the schedule for their neighborhood and be sure to have their car moved from the street on its sweeping day so our crews can get to every roadway effectively.”

This season’s street sweeping efforts are designed to help sweep up falling leaves in our neighborhoods.  “We usually do our fall street sweeping in September, but this year we are beginning in November to try to clean our curb lines of fallen leaves,” said David Knowlton, DPS Director.

Residential neighborhood sweeping will continue to take place on both sides of the street on the same day. Sweeping will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Each neighborhood route will be posted with temporary ‘No Parking/Tow Zone’ signs and parking will be prohibited between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Neighborhood streets are broken down into four zones. Sweep days are the next day after the regularly scheduled trash day. To find a specific street sweeping date, locate your street’s zone on the 2022 Fall Street Sweeping Schedule and match it with the calendar. Monday sweeping takes place on the preceding Friday’s trash day. Street sweeping schedules can be found at www.salemma.gov/streetsweeping. Please note there will be no sweeping on Monday October 31, Friday November 11, Thursday November 24, and Friday November 25.

Residents can use entrance corridor streets as alternative parking areas on the day of their neighborhood sweep. Entrance corridor streets are Boston St., Bridge St., Essex St. (from Boston St. to North/Summer St.), Lafayette St. (from Derby St. to Marblehead line), Loring Ave., and North St. Once a neighborhood street is swept, residents can move their vehicles back onto their street. For a complete list of parking alternatives go to www.salemma.gov/streetsweeping. Please remember if you choose to move your vehicle to an entrance corridor street that you must adhere to all current parking restrictions and metered rates on these entrance corridors, including ‘resident only’ parking restrictions.

Certain weather conditions prohibit the use of the street sweepers: during moderate to heavy rainfall and extreme cold temperatures sweepers will not be able to operate. Weather cancellations will be posted on www.salemma.gov.
