City of Salem COVID-19 Response Update – July 9, 2020

New Updates

  • The Collector’s Office at Salem City Hall will resume accepting passport applications for processing on Monday, July 13th. Passport applications will only be accepted by appointment. Please call the office at (978) 619-5621 to schedule an appointment.

  • The Black Picnic at Salem Willows has been an annual celebration in mid-July of self-governance by freed Black people across the north east since 1885. Over the last few years a private organization, Salem United, has coordinated more formal elements to the day’s festivities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Salem United has withdrawn its permit requests for the event this year. Accordingly, there will be no parade, vendors, or entertainment. As a public park, the Salem Willows is open to the public, however. Those planning to visit the Willows, and any City park, must follow the public health measures in effect, including a requirement for face coverings or masks and the maintaining of at least six feet of physical distance from other people. Park attendees are encouraged, to the greatest extent possible, to carry out their trash and belongings and to wash or sanitize their hands frequently.

  • As a reminder, the City is no longer suspending ticketing/towing of vehicles parked on street on sweeping days. Please note when your street is posted for street sweeping and move your vehicle in order to avoid being towed and to allow the street to be more completely swept clean.
