· Salem businesses are invited to participate in the next Small Business Town Hall on August 13 at 9am. Presenters will include Mayor Kim Driscoll, Dr. David Roberts of North Shore Medical Center, Captain Dennis King, acting Chief of Police, Health Agent David Greenbaum, and Kate Fox of Destination Salem. - The City is hiring downtown ambassadors to help greet visitors and those downtown, and inform them about the public health order requiring masks in the downtown zone. Please consider applying for this part-time position.
- The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has imposed new restrictions and requirements on those visiting or returning from travel out of state. Visitors to Salem and residents returning from travel out of state should familiarize themselves with these rules in order to ensure they comply and avoid the $500/day fine imposed by the state. Status of Cases
As of 4:00 p.m. on August 6, 2020, there were 690 Salem residents who have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), of which 66 cases are currently active. 36 Salem residents have died from the virus. Since the outbreak began, 538 Salem residents who had been infected by the virus have cleared their isolation period.
As of August 5, 2020, Salem’s case rate per 100,000 people was 4.8% less than the state’s case rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 10,637 tests have been conducted on Salem residents. The percent of Salem residents testing positive for the two-week period of July 29-August 5, 2020 was 2.42%. As of August 6, 2020, Salem’s rolling 7-day average of new daily cases per 100,000 people is 1.73/day and the state’s is 4.42/day.
