GLOUCESTER – Mayor Greg Verga, Chief Eric Smith and the Gloucester Fire Department are pleased to announce that the City of Gloucester will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony this month.

WHAT:
Gloucester fire, police, military personnel, and elected officials will hold a remembrance ceremony on September 11 to honor those lost in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, and in the Global War on Terror.
The ceremony will begin with a welcome from Chief Smith, followed by a prayer by Chaplain Peter Aberle. The city will also hold a moment of silence. The Gloucester Fire Department, in the tradition of the Fire Department of New York, strike a “5-5-5-5” ceremonial alarm to honor all public safety personnel who died in the line of duty on September 11.
“We are honored to host this ceremony, and encourage everyone to join us,” said Chief Smith. “So many first responders made the ultimate sacrifice on that day, and many more suffered for years as a result of their heroism. We will continue to mark their courage and bravery.”
“We must never forget the lives lost on September 11th, and I am honored to come together as a community for this ceremony,” said Mayor Verga. “It is important that we remember the sacrifice and bravery of those who were there on that fateful day.”
