A Special State Election will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Below is a listing of important dates and deadlines that relate to voting in this election. If you have any questions, please contact the City Clerk’s office at 978-325-5120 or by emailing elections@gloucester-ma.gov.
ELECTION DAY
Election Day is Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Check your Ward and Precinct voting location here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/elections-and-voting.htm
EARLY VOTING
There will be no early voting for the March 31, 2026 Special State Election.
VOTE BY MAIL
The deadline to request a Vote by Mail/Absentee by Mail ballot is Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
The deadline to return a Vote by Mail/Absentee by Mail ballot mailed within the United States is Election Day, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.

Voters can return their Vote by Mail/Absentee by Mail ballots by mail, hand delivery to the City Clerk’s office, or by using the drop box located at the Warren Street entrance to City Hall.
ABSENTEE VOTING IN PERSON
Absentee voting is available to voters who are unable to go to the polls on Election Day due to an absence from the city or for medical or religious reasons. The deadline to absentee vote in person in the City Clerk’s office is Monday, March 30, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
VOTER REGISTRATION
The deadline to register to vote in Gloucester, change your address within Gloucester, or make changes to your name in person for the Special State Primary is Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 5:00
p.m. The City Clerk’s office will be open from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026 strictly for this purpose.
Alternatively, you may register to vote, change your address or make changes to your name online until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr. If you’re unsure whether or not you are registered to vote, please check before submitting a voter registration application: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/elections-and-voting.htm.
