GLOUCESTER – The Cape Ann Museum invites families and young visitors to discover the art and history of Cape Ann during April School Vacation week at CAM Green (13 Poplar St., Gloucester). Programs are free and open to the public and will be held April 23 to April 26.

Families are invited to explore the Museum’s newest exhibition, Breath of Life – C.B. Fisk, Designers & Builders of Pipe Organs in the Janet & William Ellery James Center to learn about the instruments, view intricate models of architectural spaces and pipe organs, see the tools used in the construction process, take an audio scavenger hunt, and enjoy one of the daily drop-in art making activities.

April School Vacation Week programs include:

  • Wednesday, April 23, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    • Drop-in Art Making: Make a simple instrument. Carlson Education Center.

    • Pipe Up! Drop-In musical activities for kids of all ages. Fifteen minutes each at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

    • Make some music! Try a mini-organ model at the Carlson Education Center.

    • Take a musical scavenger hunt with the newest Cassie Guide.

 

  • Thursday, April 24, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    • Drop-in Art Making: Make a paper model of a pipe organ. Carlson Education Center.

    • Pipe Making Demonstration by Ted Stoddard: Watch and ask questions as Ted Stoddard, organ pipe maker, demonstrates how pipes are made at C.B. Fisk.

    • Make some music! Try a mini-organ model at the Carlson Education Center.

    • Take a musical scavenger hunt with the newest Cassie Guide.

  • Friday, April 25, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    • Drop-in Art Making: Make a design inspired by stained glass. Carlson Education Center.

    • Make some music! Try a mini-organ model at the Carlson Education Center.

    • Take a musical scavenger hunt with the newest Cassie Guide.

  • Saturday, April 26, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    • Drop-in Art Making: Make a simple instrument. Carlson Education Center.

    • Pipe Up! Drop-In musical activities for kids of all ages. Fifteen minutes each at 11 a.m. and 11:30  a.m.

    • Make some music! Try a mini-organ model at the Carlson Education Center.

    • Take a musical scavenger hunt with the newest Cassie Guide.

 

Activities are recommended for ages 4 and up. Adult supervision required. Parking is a first come first serve basis.

While the main Cape Ann Museum campus on Pleasant Street in Downtown Gloucester is closed for renovations until Spring 2026, CAM Green has expanded its hours and programming. It is open Sundays through Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Cape Ann Museum, founded in 1875, exists to preserve and celebrate the history and culture of the area and to keep it relevant to today’s audiences. Spanning 44,000 square feet, the Museum’s Downtown campus, which is closed for renovations through spring 2026, remains a major cultural institution on Boston’s North Shore that has welcomed thousands of local, national, and international visitors annually to its exhibitions, programs and community led events. The Cape Ann Museum Green (CAM Green), the Museum’s campus off Grant Circle and Route 128 in Gloucester is home to the 12,000 square foot Janet & William Ellery James Center, built in 2020 which includes a flexible exhibition and community programming space designed to reach broader audiences with new exhibits and public programs. CAM Green also features three historic structures: the White Ellery House (1710), the Babson-Alling House (c.1740), an adjacent Barn (c.1740), a Contemporary Art Wetu (2023-2024) and a Mush8n (mi-shoon) (2023), an eastern woodlands boat.

General admission to the Cape Ann Museum Green campus is free. Due to limited parking, timed parking reservations for vehicles are recommended.
