Brian Wilcox Named New Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach

SALEM, Mass. —  Athletic Director Nicolle Wood is pleased to announce that Brian Wilcox has been hired as the new head women’s lacrosse coach at Salem State University. “We are excited to welcome coach Wilcox to our staff. He has shown a commitment to growing the game of women’s lacrosse in the New England region and we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds under his leadership”

Wilcox replaces former head coach Karen Atkinson, who led the program for two seasons, and who will now focus primarily on coaching the Salem State field hockey program.

Wilcox joins the staff after being named the first-ever assistant coach of the Suffolk University women’s lacrosse program, which began in 2024.

Wilcox has extensive experience at both the prep and college level, working previously at UMass Boston as the Beacons’ women’s lacrosse club advisor. Additionally, he has worked as the head girls lacrosse coach at East Catholic High School, compiling a 75-37-1 record, which included a trip to the 2018 Connecticut Class S State Championship.

“I am honored to be the head coach at Salem State University and I am so excited for this amazing opportunity to be a part of the Salem State University Vikings’ family. I would like to thank [Athletic Director] Nicolle Wood and the members of the search committee for putting their trust in me to continue to build the women’s lacrosse program at Salem State.

I strongly believe with a solid recruiting program and through hard work and dedication on the field and in the weight room that our program will compete in the near future for the MASCAC championship in women’s lacrosse.

“Wilcox is a dual degree holder with a Masters of Business Adminstration from Hartford and a Bacehlor of Science and Business Administration from Nichols where was a two-year letter-winner in men’s lacrosse team and a four-year member of the Bison football program.”
