Ipswich won 3-1 vs North Reading

20-25, 28-26, 25-22, 27-25
This was a special game for Ipswich.  We raised money for breast cancer awareness by selling food and drink items.  We had a great support of fans in the crowd and we appreciate all those who came to support our game and this worthy cause.  To top it off, we came out victorious an intense battle with each game bringing both teams fighting to the very end.  The teamwork and unity was stronger then every on the Ipswich court.  Every player new their job and when a mistake was made each player worked to adjust so the error didn’t occur again.  Carly Restuccia was a strong leader on defense wanting each ball in the back row and passing accurately to our setters.  Mikayla Koerber and Haley O’Connor each had multiple digs and set well each game.  Sophia Rugo and Meghan O’Connor were all over the court keeping communication and energy high. All players gave it their all and never gave up and for that this coach is extremely proud!

Salem State Soccer Wins

SALEM  – Salem State received goals from three different scorers as the Vikings pulled way for a 3-1 victory over New England College Wednesday on “Think Pink” night at Alumni Field. Salem State improves their record to 3-5-3 while the Pilgrims slip to 7-7 on the year.

Salem State wasted no time reaching the scoreboard as Kevin Gallo (Como, Italy) was rewarded a free kick after being fouled just outside the Pilgrims box. Gallo bent the ball from left to right while his teammates screened Pilgrims goalie Samuel Thompson (Chelmsford, MA) for an early goal.

Despite only seven attempts, two of them on net, and six corners Salem State added to their lead late in the first half as Hatim Belmadani (Casablanca, Morocco) buried a shot from 30 yards out that beat Pilgrim goaltender Thompson high on the left side of the net. Salem State took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

With a steady flow of offense being produced in the opening minutes of the second half, New England College finally converted on the scoreboard as Panagiotis Galatas (Hillsboro, NH) rocketed a shot right past Vikings goalie Gus Savage (Georgetown, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Mitch Tepe (Sterling, MA) answered for Salem State in the 55th minute when he tapped home a rebound off the near post that beat the goaltender short side to regain a two-goal lead for Salem State at 3-1. The Vikings’ defense was able to hold off the Pilgrims late efforts in the final 30 minutes of play to secure the 3-1 victory.

Savage earned his first win in net, contributing with five saves in the match to lift his team to the victory while Thompson allowed all three goals while saving six shots.

Salem State will travel to Framingham State on Saturday, Oct. 15 to face-off against the Rams at noon. New England College will resume their season on Oct. 15 when they host Husson University at 2:30 p.m. in a North Atlantic Conference matchup.
