Classic Middlesex League Rivalry Match-up – Wakefield 72 Melrose 69 (OT) – Many Lead Changes In Hard Fought Contest – Radio Broadcast & Post Game Videos

WAKEFIELD – (Radio & Videos) The Wakefield High School boys basketball team defeated Melrose Sunday afternoon 72-69 in overtime. The game was tied at 62-62 at the end of regulation. Melrose had three players foul out of the game in the overtime, while Wakefield’s Andrew Auld fouled out of the game early in OT with his team down 67-62. Below are post game comments from coach Brad Simpson, players Tighe Beck and Andrew Auld. Wakefield was led in scoring with three players with 15 points: Tighe Beck, Andrew Auld, and Kobey Nadeau. Melrose was led in scoring by Avery Davis (15 and Julian Nyland (14). With the win, first place Wakefield opened up a 3 game lead in the Middlesex League’s Freedom division.

In the girls game, Melrose topped Wakefield 53-45 and with the win Melrose qualifed for the MIAA tournament.
