Boxford Motorcylist Charged with OUI in Connection Crash Causing Death of Danvers Man

NEWBURY – One man was killed and another charged with operating under the influence after their motorcycles collided on Route 1 in Newbury on Thursday night, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Newbury Police Chief Patricia Fisher announced.

James Turcotte, 63, of Danvers was pronounced deceased at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. Scott Dambrosio, 55, of Boxford was charged with OUI, as well as negligent operation and leaving the scene of a personal injury collision resulting in death.

Dambrosio was arraigned on Friday in Haverhill District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to operating under the influence of liquor. He was held on $5,000 bail, as well as an outstanding warrant from the Newbury Police Department. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Newburyport District Court on the negligent operation and leaving the scene charges.

Authorities received a report about 7:45 p.m. Thursday that two motorcycles that had been riding together on Route 1 South collided just south of 96 Newburyport Turnpike.

Turcotte was seriously injured and taken to the hospital, where he later died. Dambrosio was subsequently arrested by Boxford Police and charged with operating under the influence.

Newbury Police request that any witnesses or anyone with video surveillance footage in the area of the collision, overlooking Route 1 or on Middle Road in Newbury please contact Newbury Police Department Detective Sergeant Stephen Jenkins at 978-462-4440, ext. 127.

The investigation is being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, as well as the Newbury Police Department.

The emergency response was conducted by the Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley and Boxford Police Departments, with assistance from the Newbury Fire Department and Atlantic Ambulance Co.

Chief Fisher thanked the motoring public for its cooperation during the closure of Route 1.
