This is Mayor Mike Cahill with a Friday afternoon trash and recycling update.
Today, Republic Services picked up regular Tuesday routes. If Republic missed your street today, please e-mail me at mayorcahill@beverlyma.gov and I will try to get a Republic truck to come pick you up tomorrow.
Tomorrow, the regular Wednesday routes should put your trash and recycling out before 7 AM to be picked up together tomorrow as trash.
Next week, Thursday and Friday routes will be instructed to put your trash and recycling out together. I will make a Sunday evening call with further instructions. Once Republic successfully picks up all Thursday and Friday routes next week, that will signal the end of recycling being picked up as trash. Therefore, all regular Monday and Tuesday customers should now begin to again keep your recycling separate from your trash. It is unclear when Republic will be able to resume curbside recycling pickup as a regular part of the services they are supposed to provide our community, and I will continue to push for this.
In the meantime, for those who want to and can bring your recycling to the Standley St. yard waste compost site, from which it will be brought to a recycling facility, the site will be open tomorrow from 9 AM – 3 PM. If you use the dumpsters at Standley St., please only put accepted recycling materials in the dumpsters, and please break down all cardboard and flatten your plastic. Our Department of Public Services team is actively managing the site, and not flattening boxes and plastic causes the dumpsters to fill too quickly – please help them and your neighbors by doing your part.
