BEVERLY (Video – Photos) The Beverly boys basketball team was looking to sweep a two-game series this week with Haverhill and qualify for post season play today but that did not happen. Haverhill rebounded from a loss on Thursday to the Panthers (67-66) by beating the Beverly Saturday afternoon 59-44 on Beverly Youth Basketball Day at the high school. Beverly is one win away from qualifying for the MIAA playoffs and now they have only one remaining game to make that happen. Beverly will wrap-up their regular season at home Wednesday night against Tewksbury (7 p.m.). As for Saturday’s game, Haverhill was led by a 30-point performance by senior Alejandro Delgado who also scored his 1000th career point the game. Will Ryan led Beverly with 13-points, Jacob Klass added 12-points with all of them coming in the first half. Beverly is now 9-10 on the season, Haverhill improves to 7-11. Haverhill led at the half (28-23) and had built that lead to 10-points at the end of the third quarter (43-33). Late in the first half Beverly cut the Haverhill lead to 1-point (24-23) as Kloss hit 5 straight free throws going 5-5 at the line during that stretch.
JV Score: Beverly 60, Haverhill 58 (OT) Beverly JVs are now 13-3 on the season.
