Trio of North Shore Natives Return to Navigators for 2021 Season

LYNN — The North Shore Navigators will be taking the field in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) with three more veteran players on the roster, including a pair of area natives.

Peabody native Jake Gustin played in nine games for the Navs in 2018 before beginning what has turned into a standout career at Bryant University. The rising senior middle infielder stuffed the stat sheet while helping the Bulldogs claim their ninth straight Northeast Conference regular-season title this spring, hitting .377 with a .456 on-base percentage, 20 extra-base hits, 31 RBI and a team-leading 43 runs scored. Gustin played for the Navs following his graduation from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School and spent the following summer with the NECBL’s Newport Gulls.

Entering his third summer with the team, Todd Tringale is another former Northeastern Conference star who is set to return to Fraser Field. The former Saugus ace enjoyed an outstanding season at Northern Essex Community College, helping the Knights make a run into the NJCAA Division 3 tournament. He went 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 45 regular-season innings this spring. Last summer, Triangle held opponents to a .236 average across 19.2 innings.

Outfielder Jack Whorf returns for his second summer as a Navigator after appearing in 15 games at the University of Massachusetts this spring. The former Xaverian standout from Weston recorded a double in his first career Atlantic-10 start at Saint Joseph’s, as well as three runs scored, one RBI and a .381 on-base percentage. Whorf enjoyed a strong finish to last summer, hitting safely in six of his last 10 games to finish with a .246 average, six RBI and 13 runs scored.

The Navigators are excited to return to the NECBL for the 2021 season, which will begin on Friday, June 4 at Lynn’s Fraser Field.
