LYNN – Bats were held quiet for most of Friday night as the North Shore Navigators fell to the Seacoast Mavericks 3-1.
A North Shore victory would have eliminated Seaocast from the playoffs, but the Mavericks take their playoff conquests to the final weekend of the season
The first run for the Mavericks came in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Jake Lebel with two outs. The bases were loaded in the top of the third after a pair of singles and a walk. With two outs Brendan Irvine singled to bring in the second run of the night.
Seacoast stretched the lead to three in the top of the ninth, working quickly to cement an end-game lead. Benjamin Irvine singled aboard and stole second base to work into scoring position. Kyle Boudrais singled to put runners on the corners. A fielders choice ground ball by Rudy Baez brought in the last run of the night.
The Navigators would half the lead in the bottom of the fourth to 2-1, but were unable to generate much else. Billy Buscetto (Holy Cross) lead off with a single and stole second. Austin Masel stretched into second base with a double to bring in the Navigators only run of the night.
The loudest applause came in recognizing two senior players in their final appearances in Navigators uniforms. Al Wallach, tonight’s starting pitcher spent two years with the Navigators after competing for Framingham State.
A three-year Navigator, UMass Amherst pitcher Keith Linnane anchored the team both in the club house and in the field. This season Linnane hit .290 on the season, matching his strength behind the plate.
The Navigators host the Pittsfield Suns on Saturday in their final home game at Fraser Field this season.
