The North Shore Navigators headed to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday to face the Sharks looking for their first win of the season but fell short despite taking an early lead.  The Navigators were looking to end their four game losing streak but fell short after the Sharks came from behind in the eighth inning.

In the first inning, the Navigators took and early lead. Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas College) scored on a wild pitch giving the Navigators to make the game 1-0. The Navigators would later extend that lead after Alex Brickman (Sienna College) drove in Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College) and shortly after extended the lead to 3-0 when Mack Nathanson (Wofford) hit a single driving in Brickman.

The Sharks did manage to narrow the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth but shortly after the Navigators went up 4-2 after a single by DiBenedetto and a throwing error that let in MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State University).

The pitching for the Navs also helped to keep them in the game. Cam Lanzilli (UMASS Lowell) was on the mound to start the game and had a solid performance with four strikeouts during his five innings pitched. Lanzilli leads the Navigators team with 14 strikeouts on the year. Brett Morrison (Lock Haven Univeristy) made his team debut and also totaled 4 strikeout

Going into the top of the eighth the Navigators had the 4-2 lead and had not trailed all game. Martha’s Vineyard’s Alex Lewis eliminated the lead with a two run homer and from that point on the Sharks took over. They grabbed the momentum and ran up the score to 8-4. That is how the game would end.

The Navigators are back in action on Thursday June 9 playing the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs beginning at 6:35 p.m. The next home game will be a Firework Friday game on June 10 where they will face the Nashua Silver Knights. First pitch will be at 7 p.m.
