Navigators Struggle To Finish In Loss To Brockton Rox

LYNN – The North Shore Navigators could not pull out a victory in their latest home game against the Brockton Rox. After an offensive showdown, the team could not do quite enough to power past the Rox. They dropped the game by a final score of 9-7.

On offense, the Navigators were very successful in the first couple of innings. They loaded up the bases a couple of times against the Rox’s pitching staff, and managed to push some runs across. In the opening frame, Christian Cabrera (Broward CC) helped to push across the first run. He launched a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) for the first run of the game. Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell) would later hit another sacrifice fly to make the game 2-0.

Before the inning ended, Jordan Roper (Marist College) really put the Navigators out in front. Roper hit a big single into left center field that scored Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College). It was part of a big effort for Roper, who went 3-5 on the night batting from the No. 7 spot in the lineup.

In the second inning, the Navigators continued their scoring ways. With the bases loaded, Cabrera came up to bat and got an infield single that scored Pena for the second time in the game. The Navigators would make it 5-2 before the close of the inning thanks to an groundout by Alex Brickman that brought home MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State).

Later in the game, the Navigators got a couple of more runs with the bases loaded and they got a great effort out of one of their relievers. Brian Burke (Curry College) pitched three solid innings for the team and only allowed one hit during the outing.

He allowed one earned run and struck out three batters. He helped to keep the Navs in the game late into the contest.

Unfortunately, some late errors in the field undid the Navigators as they allowed three runs to the Rox in the ninth inning. That put the game out of reach at 9-7.

The Navigators will return to action on Friday, July 22 when they travel to Martha’s Vineyard to take on the Sharks. They will return to Fraser Field on Wednesday, July 27 when they play the Bristol Blues. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
