MANCHESTERBYTHESEA – The traditional Thanksgiving Day rivalry between the Manchester-Essex Green Hornets (5-5) and the Georgetown Royals is over. At least temporarily. That’s because a numbers crunch forced Georgetown to join forces in a co-op with Pentucket for 2023. Hornets coach Joe Grimes, though, is pumped because (as some guy in the Bruins broadcast booth likes to say) “the game is on.” Coach Grimes loves this time of year when tradition is paramount and the last 10 days of the high school football season produce great memories. And, hopefully a great game.
Oh, yeah, the opponent. North Middlesex Regional School (Townsend, MA). The Patriots (7-3) lost their Thanksgiving Day rival, too, so they’ll be visiting Hyland Field Thursday morning at 10.
