BOXFORD – The Masconmet Chieftains ended up on the short end of a 34-14 count in Friday night’s opener against a strong Billerica team that finished 10-1 last season and returns a ton of starters. Masco coach Gavin Monagle, though, thought that the Chieftains put out a good effort and will get better quickly as the younger players gain experience. Coach Monagle cites many of his players’ efforts and is optimistic that, with the bye week, the coaching staff will be able better prepare the team for the next game.
