As the high school fall sports season approaches, we are reposting some of last year’s profiles with north shore football coaches. In these interviews the coaches share memories from the days as players and reflect on the events and people that have shaped them as coaches. These interviews were conducted in August, many of them prior to the first day of practices (8/18).
NEWBURYPORT – Third in a line of a family of football coaches, it was probably inevitable that Ben Smolski would become head coach of the Newburyport High School football team someday. From watching the Clippers with his dad at an early age to Youth Football then Clipper football, Coach Smolski studied the game from all angles. Now getting ready for his 7th season as the Newburyport head coach, he shares his experiences with coaches, teammates, and his own student-athletes.
