Saturday Afternoon Update: Endicott Men’s Basketball Tops Framingham State 85-65, Lynn’s Echevarria & Hill Lead Men – Women’s Hoop Loses to Babson

Saturday Afternoon Update:

HARTFORD, CT — The Endicott men’s basketball team defeated Framingham State, 85-65, on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Trinity College Holiday Tournament at Oosting Gymnasium.

Jalen Echevarria (Lynn) led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field (3-for-7 3PT, 2-for-2 FT).

Drew Brown (Pelham, N.H.) also contributed a career-high 18 points behind a 6-for-6 showing from beyond the arc. Brown is the first student-athlete in program history to finish a contest with a perfect three-point field goal percentage with at least six made triples.

Jeff Hill (Lynn) concluded the list of double-digit scorers for the Gulls with 16 points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott took a 5-4 lead with 15:03 to play in the first half and never trailed the rest of the way.
  • The Gulls led by as many as 20 points on three separate occasions (2nd, 15:27, 51-31 | 2nd, 1:40, 83-63 | 2nd, :36, 85-65).
  • Framingham State brought the game within five points, 20-15, with 6:23 to go in the opening stanza, but Endicott closed out the half with an 18-11 run behind six different scorers.
  • The Rams never brought the game under double-digits again after falling behind 32-21 with 2:39 remaining in the first half.
  • Endicott is 10-3 all-time against Framingham State.

Endicott Women’s Basketball Loses to Babson on Saturday

BABSON PARK — The Endicott women’s basketball team lost to No. 9/9 nationally ranked Babson, 76-51, on Saturday afternoon at Staake Gymnasium on the final day of the Judy Pearson ’85 Memorial Tournament.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) highlighted the Gulls with 17 points (8-16 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, and three assists.

Cassie Caldwell (Marshfield) added 13 points, while Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) compiled nine points, six rebounds, and three assists in the setback.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Babson is ranked No. 9 in the latest D3hoops.com and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) polls.
  • The Beavers broke up a 10-10 tie in the first quarter (4:47) via a 10-0 run and held onto their advantage the rest of the way.
  • In the second quarter, Endicott pulled within four points, 20-16, with 6:41 to play before Babson produced a 42-25 lead (17 points) at the break to put the game out of reach.
  • The Beavers are 4-1 all-time against Endicott.
  • Avery Hallinan (Amesbury) notched her first collegiate bucket with a jumper at the 2:43 mark of the third.
  • Kiley Drezek (Seymour, Conn.) scored her first point with the Gulls via a free throw with six seconds to play.

Men’s Game notes from Friday

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Endicott men’s basketball team lost to Farmingdale State, 78-65, in the opening round of the Trinity College Holiday Tournament on Friday night at Oosting Gymnasium.

Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls with six points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) paced the squad with 13 points, while Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) and Liam Dunfee (Nahant, Mass.) also chipped in with 12 points apiece.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Rams led for 37:20 of the contest.
  • Tonight’s matchup was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
  • Endicott’s four-game winning streak was snapped with tonight’s setback.
  • During the run, the Gulls had defeated Salve Regina (78-73, 11/30), Suffolk (85-70, 12/3), UNE (80-61, 12/6), and Salem State (77-63, 12/8).
