An apparent murder/suicide is under investigation according to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and Lynn Police Chief Christopher Reddy.
At approximately 1:21 pm on Thursday, May 19th, Lynn Police responded to 23 Mudge Street for a reported shooting. On arrival, Lynn Police and Fire found a male and a female suffering from gunshot wounds. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified the deceased as Jessie Mitchell, 46, who suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and Yajaira Mitchell, 31, who appeared to have been fatally shot. On April 25th, Yajaira had been granted a restraining order against Jessie Mitchell for one year.
This matter remains under investigation by the Essex District Attorney’s Office, the Essex State Police Detective Unit and the Lynn Police. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of the deaths.
