Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt is the starting point for the adaptation by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle for Marblehead Little Theatre’s musical production, which will run from February 24 to March 5. Director Trudi Olivetti and the cast of players are joining library staff at Abbot Public Library at the Eveleth School location for a collaborative program featuring songs from the musical and a book and script discussion.

After an opening song, Children’s Librarian Marcia Cannon and Director Trudi Olivetti will discuss important themes and characters in the book and the challenges and changes in translating the book to musical theater. There will be an opportunity for audience questions as well.

The classic book by Natalie Babbitt, published in 1975, concerns the curse or blessing of magic that gives eternal life. When ten-year-old Winnie meets the Tuck family, she finds out their secret about a spring of water that grants eternal life. Many complications happen-some shocking. The book was adapted into a film and into a script for musical theater. The show was performed on Broadway in 2016 and has been produced many times in community theaters.

The five actors – Emilia Tagliani, Allison Russell, Andrew Haninson, Breden Foley, and AJ Macrina – portraying the characters in the production will be on hand to perform more songs from the show after the discussion. Finally, all adults in attendance may enter a raffle for a prize of free tickets to the Thursday, March 2 night performance of Tuck Everlasting. Registration is required – please call the Children’s Room at 781-631-1481.

Tuck Everlasting will run from February 24 – March 5, 2023 at Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School Street, Marblehead. Tickets may be purchased at MLTLive.org.
