Superintendent Justin Bartholomew and Executive Director of Operations Jonathan Seymour share that Pentucket Regional School District’s summer programs will run from June until August, allowing students to explore athletics, arts, video production and more.

This is the second year PRSD is running its summer programs.

This year, the District is expanding on its program offerings, introducing a Panther Summer Day Program for Grade 1-6 students.

The six-week program will run Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., beginning the week of June 23.

The program will utilize Pentucket’s entire regional campus to provide an enriching experience for participants to socialize and engage creatively with their peers. Students will be grouped by one or more grade levels and will rotate through a variety of activities throughout the day that will take them to the outdoor grass and turf fields, all-weather track, softball field, tennis courts as well as the indoor gymnasium, indoor turf room and classrooms inside the building.

Each week will also feature games, arts and crafts, sports activities and team-building exercises related to a weekly theme. The themes, in order, are: summer celebration, favorite character, superhero, neon, Boston sports and “aloha.”

“Last year, we saw students use our summer programs to supplement their athletic and academic interests,” said Seymour. “We are pleased to be able to expand on our offerings this year and allow our younger Panthers to have an opportunity to explore several creative outlets while continuing to learn and grow academically and socially.”

The returning summer programs will also begin June 23, featuring individual speed and agility training, or team training in tennis, soccer, baseball, cheering, football, volleyball, basketball, and field hockey.

Aside from athletics, students can participate in 2D and 3D visual art studio sessions and explore various art materials, such as graphite, paint and clay.

In video production classes, students explore the production journey, from scriptwriting and storyboarding, to recording and editing their visions through Final Cut Pro. Video game modding courses allow students to understand coding through the lens of video games, delving into the mechanics of their favorite video games.

There are options available for students to participate in half a day of sporting clinics and half a day of art or video. View the full summer programming schedule here.

This year’s program also introduces Musical Theatre Workshops. There are workshops offered at the high school and middle school level, where students train in acting, singing, and dancing to produce a play performed at the end of the week. Middle School students will perform “Alice and Wonderland,” while the high school performance is yet to be determined.

There is also a week-long technical program within the theatre workshop that teaches students stagecraft, lighting and sound design skills, to be showcased during the theater productions.

“Our summer programs are a wonderful way to foster curiosity, collaboration and creativity; keeping our students engaged in learning and pursuing their passions while school is not in session,” said Dr. Bartholomew.
