MANCHESTERBYTHESEA – Last week, our crews participated in Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training, which is designed to locate and rescue downed or injured firefighters.
A RIT team is a designated crew that serves as a standby rescue unit, ready for the immediate search and rescue of any missing, trapped, injured, or unaccounted-for firefighters. We are in the process of transitioning to a new model that places crews ‘On-Deck’, ensuring they are prepared to deploy for firefighter rescues while also being the next team in line to enter the building when rotating crews for rehabilitation.
Teams are fully equipped with the appropriate personal protective clothing, equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and specialized rescue tools needed for the specific operations underway.
