NEWBURYPORT – There will be a special public event on Thursday December 5, 2024 at 3:00pm to commemorate the NBHI interpretive sign “Fighting for Double Victory: Newburyport’s Black Soldiers and Sailors.” The panel shines a light on the experiences of Black soldiers and sailors during the Civil War era and World War 2, including four members of the Cousins family.
The event on 12/5/24 will include multiple members of the extended Cousins family, and the program will include a meet-and-greet and some photographs at 3:00pm and then comments by elected officials plus former Sheriff Frank Cousins, Jr., Billy Johnson, Richard Cousins, Gardner Cousins, and others, followed by a ribbon cutting.
The gathering will be in Brown Square at the corner of Green and Pleasant Streets, across from City Hall and adjacent to the veterans plaza.
