Update on Lead and Copper Rule Compliance
The EPA’s updated Lead and Copper Rule Revisions officially took effect on October 16, 2024. As part of these changes, we must submit an initial inventory of service materials in our water system to MassDEP.
To meet this requirement, the Gloucester Water Compliance Office and Public Utility Division have teamed up with Environmental Partners/Apex, an engineering firm specializing in this process. Together, we’re reviewing system records to identify any properties with lead or galvanized water service lines.
What You Need to Know:
If lead or galvanized water services are found at your property: You’ll receive a letter by November 15, 2024, with steps to help minimize risks.
If we couldn’t determine your service line material: You’ll receive a letter requesting your help in identifying the material used.
No letter? Great news! This means no lead or galvanized service lines were found on your property, and no action is needed on your part.
Over the next few years, our focus will be on removing all lead and galvanized service lines and addressing any unknown materials.
