Mayor Sean Reardon and Fire Chief Stephen H. Bradbury III are pleased to invite the community to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated John F. Cutter Jr. West End Fire Station.
WHEN:
Friday, Nov. 1, from 10-11 a.m.
WHERE:
The John F. Cutter Jr. West End Fire Station, 153 Storey Ave.
The ceremony will be held in the apparatus bay. Handicapped parking spots and designated parking at the building are accessible to the public. Attendees can also park along Storeybrooke Road, Virgina Lane, or Lt. Leary Drive.
WHAT:
The City of Newburyport and the Newburyport Fire Department are marking the completion of the year-long West End Fire Station building project with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The previous station serving the City’s West End had been standing since the 1970s and was outdated in nearly every aspect, posing health threats and lacking insulation and cooling systems, handicapped accessibility, fire protection sprinkler systems, storage space, parking and more.
The new 6,600-square-foot facility includes living space, five bunkrooms, and three bathrooms, all appropriately separated from the larger apparatus bay and work area. The station will also be the City’s first “Net Zero” municipal building, meaning that the solar panels on the roof of the building are expected to generate as much power as the facility consumes.
The general contractor for the project was Construction Dynamics, Inc. Turner & Townsend Heery managed construction, and Winter Street Architects was the architect.
The program for the ceremony is as follows:
- Bagpipe opening ceremony and welcome remarks
- Swearing-in of Firefighters Matt Thurlow and Ryan Aghoian and promotion ceremony of Call Lieutenant John F. Cutter
- Re-dedication of the Firefighter Anthony E. Raven Memorial
- Remarks from Chief Bradbury, Mayor Reardon, City Council President Edward Cameron Jr., state Sen. Bruce Tarr, and other invited speakers
- Remarks and Recognition of Project Team by Newburyport Senior Project Manager Geordie Vining
- Ceremonial ribbon cutting
“The City is beyond grateful for the contractors, construction workers, architects, and everyone else involved in creating this outstanding facility,” said Mayor Reardon. “This building is a major milestone in the City’s goals to create safe, environmentally conscious workplaces for our employees.”
“The renovation to the station will allow our firefighters and staff to work in a safe, accommodating work environment full of the necessities that they deserve,” said Chief Bradbury. “The men and women of the Newburyport Fire Department are grateful to those who helped this project come to fruition.”
