From Nick Giannino, Gloucester Times Sports Editor:
For their accomplishments both in the classroom and on their respective athletic surfaces, Danvers senior soccer standout Georgia Prouty and Masconomet junior football star Jack Fabiano have been selected as the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for September.
Fabiano, does his damage on the gridiron for a 6-2 Masconomet squad. He’s the team’s leading rusher with 969 yards and 15 touchdowns, both of which are tops in the area. He’s had two games with over 150 yards on the ground (168 with 3 TDs against Beverly and 154 with 2 TDs against Winchester). He’s also served as one of the team’s leading tacklers on defense.
More importantly, he has his team in great position to make some noise in the playoffs.
“It has taken a lot of hard work and commitment to be successful which our entire team has been exhibiting throughout the season,” said Fabiano, who also plays hockey at Masco. “I have shown up every day while pushing myself to get better so that I can be the best player I could possible be to help our team reach our goals for this year.
“Now with playoffs coming up, we just need to continue working like we have been as we look to have a good run.”
Academically, Fabiano is currently applying for National Honors Society and boasts an impressive 4.7 GPA in the classroom. He says putting in the work on the field without sacrificing time for his studies is something he takes pride in.
“If you use your time wisely and get your work done then you should be pretty successful,” he said. “Especially during the football season; all of the players just have to grind all season in order to be successful in both the classroom and on the field, but it feels rewarding in the end.”
Fabiano is still in the process of selecting a college, but hopes to go into biology or a related field. He’s also interested in playing football at the collegiate level but “still places academics above sports in terms of searching for the right college.”
