Manchester-by-the-sea – Manchester Essex Regional High School has earned a Bronze distinction on the 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll.
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
MERHS was judged on criteria including its College Culture, College Credit, and College Optimization, ultimately earning the Bronze distinction.
The Bronze distinction indicates that 84 percent of MERHS seniors have taken at least one AP exam during their high school career. Of that 84 percent, 79 percent of students achieved a passing score of three or higher.
During the 2024 AP exam period, 149 students took an AP exam, with 92 percent scoring a three or higher.
There are 163 MERHS students scheduled to take 395 exams during the Spring of 2025, highlighting the ongoing progress of the school’s AP program.
MERHS offers 21 AP courses in the subjects of Art, English, World Language, Mathematics, Science, Computer Science and Social Studies.
“Our AP courses are an integral part of our commitment to creating an educational experience that prepares students for success post-graduation,” said Principal Julie Sgroi. “We are proud and honored to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll.”
Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. The students who enter four-year colleges with credits from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success. For those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.
“This is a tremendous honor, made possible by MERHS staff, students and families who are all continuously motivated to help students maximize their academic potential,” said Superintendent Pam Beaudoin. “Thank you to the College Board for recognizing us on this year’s AP School Honor Roll.”
