PSWICH —Chief Paul Nikas and the Ipswich Police Department report that there will be an increased police presence at Ipswich Middle High School to provide resources for students.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, Ipswich Police in collaboration with the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) School Threat and Response System (STARS) will be present at Ipswich Middle High School to provide resources and support for students.
NEMLEC STARS is a response team through NEMLEC that provides additional resources to schools that may be experiencing a crisis or significant event that requires more support. Resources also include comfort dogs from police departments across the Northeast.
Ipswich Middle High School counselors and staff will also be available to students throughout the week.
This response is a result of a train incident that occurred on Monday. The victim of the incident has not been yet identified, however out of an abundance of caution Ipswich Police and Ipswich Public Schools are working together to provide support for all students.
Ipswich Police want to emphasize that there is no danger to the public and that the increased police presence is for the support of students and staff. More information will be provided to community members as it becomes available.
NEMLEC STARS is comprised of multiple law enforcement agencies across Middlesex and Essex Counties. For more information about NEMLEC and NEMLEC STARS click here.
