Masconomet 21, Billerica 19:

The Pat Sheehan era in the Tri-Town is off to one heck of a start. Visiting Billerica, one of the Top 10 teams in Eastern Mass. by some rankings, had the ball with the chance to take the lead it the final minute and the Masconomet defense stood tall to get a turnover on downs and secure the upset win before a packed house at Walt Roberts Field.

QB Drew Gustafson hooked up with Cal Weidman for a pair of touchdowns for Masco (2-0), hitting a 36-yarder early in the fourth quarter to extend what was a 14-12 halftime lead. The other TD pass to Weidman was a 20-yarder and Abrri Halilaj escaped for a 50-yard touchdown on Masco’s first play from scrimmage to erase what had been a 6-0 Billerica lead. Nico Ceffalo made the first of his three extra points to give the Chieftains the lead for good.

The defensive line of Cash Kornusky (11  tackles, 3 for loss) and Chas Kelly (7ackles, 3 for loss) was dominant for Masconomet with Fabiano forcing two fumbles and Lucas Magnifico recording five stops.
