NEWBURY — Chief Patricia A. Fisher reports that the Newbury Police Department and law enforcement partners investigated a threat involving Triton Regional High School and charged a juvenile as a result.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Newbury Police Department was alerted by the Triton Regional High School that a student may have made a verbal threat regarding the Triton vs Amesbury football game on Friday night. The Newbury Police Department investigated the matter, and the juvenile was charged in connection with the threat.
The Salisbury Police Department assisted in ensuring that the juvenile did not have access to any weapons and the Amesbury Police Department was notified so they could ensure the safety of the football game on Friday night, and so that the involved juvenile remained away from the school.
“There are currently no credible threats toward public safety at Triton Regional High School or Amesbury High School,” said Chief Fisher. “Social media rumors can inflate understandable alarm amongst the community.”
“When there is a valid threat toward public safety, the police and school district will communicate those threats with the public and will work to cancel events we feel are unsafe,” said Chief Fisher.
The Newbury Police Department uses their social media platforms and CodeRED to communicate with the public. If a matter involves the school district, police work with the administration to communicate through their district broadcast notification system.
