BOXFORD – In his first season at Masconomet High School, veteran football coach Patrick Sheehan picked up his first win Friday in the season opener with his Chieftains beating the Newburyport Clippers, 29-20. After a dominating first half for Masco, the Clippers came roaring back in the second; and almost pulled the game out until the Chieftains re-gained momentum late in the game.

Masconomet 29, Newburyport 20: The Chieftains began the Pat Sheehan coaching era in style, scoring the game’s first 22 points and punching in a fourth quarter score after the Clippers rallied to make it a 2-point contest.
Jack Fabiano ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns, including a 1-yarder late to help seal the victory. Sophomore Davis Deluties added a 2-yard scoring plunge for the winners, with quarterback Drew Gustafson finding Cal Weidman from 18 yards out for another six points.
