NEWBURYPORT — Newburyport Mayor Sean R. Reardon and Groveland Town Administrator Rebecca Oldham share that the City of Newburyport, in conjunction with the Towns of Groveland, Newbury and West Newbury, will be hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Day in September.
Household Hazardous Waste Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Newburyport Department of Public Services (DPS) lot, 16A Perry Way.
This event, which is hosted annually, allows for residents to dispose of hazardous materials in an environmentally responsible manner.
Tradebe Environmental Services will be on-site to accept the materials. Examples of acceptable materials include oil-based paints (not latex), varnishes, pesticides, pool chemicals, and gasoline.

Commercial or industrial waste, latex paint, ammunition, asbestos, radioactive materials, fire extinguishers and medical or biological wastes will not be accepted.
All materials should be in their original, labeled containers with the lid fully secured and held in a sturdy upright box.
Please do not mix or store any chemicals together.
The costs for disposals are $30 for up to three gallons or pounds, $45 for up to 10 gallons or pounds, and $60 for up to 25 gallons or pounds. Charges are based on the size of the containers rather than the amount of chemicals in the containers.
In addition, Newburyport-based company Shred Source will be at the event with a paper shredding truck for on-site document shredding. Residents are allowed to shred one file-sized box of documents for free, with each additional box costing $5.
Payments can be made with cash or checks made out to the City of Newburyport. Credit and debit cards will not be accepted.
