Weather History – National Weather Service Boston – On This Day in Weather History: May 31, 1998. One of the more widespread severe weather outbreaks in recent times produced a tornado rated F-1 in Washington, CT, winds as high as 104 mph in Worcester, and golf ball sized hail in Pittsfield.
