Sports
High School baseball – Marblehead 5, Beverly 4 – Another great day weather wise at Seaside Park and a better outcome for the Magicians as they came from 4-2 deficit to top the Panthers 5-4. Junior Carter Sahagian pitched 4 innings of relief for Senior Bodie Bartram – who battled for three innings and gave up only one earned run. Chris Cannuscio had a big double in the first followed up by Bartram 2 RBI single to left – this put the Magicians up 2-0 after one.
In the third, the Panthers took advantage of some walks and miscues and plated 3 runners before Bartram was able to get out of it. In the fourth, Sahagian allowed a runner to score but shut it down the rest of the way.
With two outs in the fourth, the Magicians were able to rally for three runs. With Mahan on second after a walked and a pass ball, he scored on freshman Greyson Leventhal’s single to right. Leventhal then stole second, advanced on a passed ball to third and then scored on a wild pitch – all of which occurred during Riley Schmitt’s 9 pitch at bat that turned into a walk. Stef Shepard then doubled him home to give the Magicians the lead they didn’t relinquish.

Endicott College Baseball Wins Again
GORHAM, Maine — The No. 1 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated Southern Maine, 8-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Ed Flaherty Field.
WP (1-0): Evan Scully (Maynard) — 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
LP (0-1): Jack Bruno (Upton) — 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
SV (1): Ryan Walton (Boylston) — 2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Knotted at 1-1 in the third inning, Joey Frammartino (North Reading) gave the Gulls a 2-1 advantage with a solo shot to right center, his fourth of the season.
However, the Huskies showed resilience, and the two teams exchanged runs in the following three frames.
Trailing by a run in the top of the seventh, AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury) stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch go-ahead two-run double to hand the Gulls a 5-4 lead, which they held on to the rest of the way.
The Blue and Green added some insurance in the eighth and ninth innings thanks to an RBI single from Elijah Moses (Haverhill), a TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) RBI groundout, and a Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth) sac fly to left.
The back end of the Gulls bullpen was a major decider in the contest. Scully earned his first win of the season with his solid inning and a third of relief, stranding two runners following his entrance in the sixth. He then handed the ball off to Walton, who earned his first career save with two scoreless innings of relief.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is now 16-22 in the all-time series against the Huskies.
- James Benestad (Northborough) tied a career-high and led the Gulls with three hits in the contest.
- Scully’s win is the first of his career.
- Danny MacDougall (Taunton) tied a career-high with his three walks.
- MacDougall also swiped three bags in the contest. His 25 stolen bases lead the CCC by a wide margin, and place him tied for 12th in the nation.
