MARBLEHEAD (Video – Photos) The Peabody boys basketball team (16-2) captured a Northeastern Conference title Tuesday night with a 58-51 win over Marblehead. The game had been suspended earlier this season when a leaking roof prevented play from continuing. The game did resume with Peabody leading 13-11 with 3:08 to play in the first quarter. At the half, Peabody held a 3-point lead (27-24) The third quarter featured back and forth transition basketball with both teams scoring. Peabody led at the end of the third quarter 45-40. Basketball were hard to come by for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter however Peabody did build their lead to 9-points (53-44). Peabody’s top scorers were Raphel Laurent (25-points) and Anthony Forte (17-points). Laurent made six key free throws coming down the stretch in the fourth quarter. Marblehead had three players scoring in double figures; Nick Lemmond (18-points), Scott Campbell (14-points), and Ryan Commoss (13-points). Marblehead returns to action on Thursday when the host Masconomet (7 p.m.). Peabody plays at home Friday against Triton (7 p.m.).
