City of NEWBURYPORT — Has moved the voting precinct on Plum Island for Tuesday’s Whittier Tech special referendum in response to the impact of last weekend’s storms. Residents of Ward 1P are asked to vote at People’s United Methodist Church, 64 Purchase St., which is the state-approved polling place for Precinct 1. Ward 1P residents normally vote at the Plum Island Boating House. The parking lot is flooded and inaccessible to voters. The Whittier Tech vote will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Polls will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. All seniors who need a ride to the polls should contact Rosemary Coulombe at the Senior/Community Center by calling 978-462-0430.
Whittier Tech is pursuing the construction of a new building, which is estimated to cost $444.6 million. With MSBA reimbursement and other grant funding, the district’s share is estimated at $267.5 million. A “yes” vote indicates you are in favor of the project, while a “no” indicates you are not in favor of the project. For more information regarding polling locations and other voting details, visit the City Clerk’s website.
