SAUGUS (Podcast) The Masconomet boys basketball team (4-4) picked up their second win of the week with a 57-36 over Saugus (3-6). Earlier this week the Chieftains beat Salem (68-61). In Thursday night’s game Masco built a 9-point lead early in the 2nd quarter only to have Saugus storm back to close to within 1-point (18-17) with 3:05 to play in the half. Saugus would never tie or take the lead in the game after that point. Masco led at the half by 8-points (27-19) and then increased their lead with a strong 3rd quarter going on runs of 11-6 & 8-4. Masconomet had seven players tally on the score sheet led by a 16- point performance by Jamason Vella and 14-points effort from Jimmy Farrell. Saugus was led by Huey Josama (10 points). Masconomet returns to action on Tuesday night when the host Marblehead (7 p.m.) while Saugus will play at Danvers on Tuesday (7 p.m.)
