MANCHESTEBYTHESEA – In a game that had just about everything, including multiple long pass plays, multiple long runs from scrimmage, multiple fumbles, multiple interceptions, untimely penalties, a trick play that went “the other way,” nice returns, good sportsmanship, and, most of all, hard hitting from both teams, the Manchester-Essex Green Hornets beat the Lynn Tech Tigers, 63-22 Friday night.
M-E built a 40-8 halftime lead with touchdowns from Preston Potter (2 scores, 2 2-pt conversions), Steve Martin, (including 6/99 rushing and 2/56 receiving), Troy Flood (fumble return for a TD), and Quinn Brady. Jadiel Ortega picked up the only touchdown for LT with 8:22 left in the first half.
Tech came roaring out of the locker room at halftime and cut the lead to 40-22 with 4:54 to go in the third, but the Hornets took control for good in the 4th quarter with 2 more touchdowns runs from Brady and 1 from Zach Hurd.
The Hornets picked up 5 2-pt conversion and 1 PAT kick.
Tech’s Cesar Reyes was an outstanding player on both sides of the ball, coming up with critical plays on defense and gaining 126 yards on 12 carries while picking up 1 TD on offense.
The Hornets outgained the Tigers from scrimmage, 359 yards to 254.
