Salem State Men’s Golf Takes 3rd Place in MASCAC Championship in Peabody

PEABODY  Springfield claimed the 2023 MASCAC Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday at The Meadow Peabody. The Pride, coming off a strong day one performance, held off MCLA and two-time defending champion Salem State to earn their second MASCAC title since joining the league in 2019. Springfield (302, 321, +33), finished ahead of runner-up MCLA (320, 324, +36) while Salem State placed third (313, 332, +44).

MCLA standout rookie Mat Gover (Atkinson, N.H.) earned individual medalist honors, shooting a 76 on day two to go with a 71 (-1) on Saturday for a +3, 147 to beat out Springfield’s David Girourd  (Chicopee) by six strokes, (75, 78, 153 +9) and Salem State’s Ethan Doyle (Salem), who ended with a (72, 81, 153 +9).

The Pride increased their day one lead behind Girourd, Nick DeMaio (West Springfield) and Amir Ardolino (Wilbraham, Mass.), who all finished in the top-five. DeMaio scored a (72, 84, 156) while Ardolino shot an (81, 76, 157).

Gover also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors, while The BSN Sports Coach of the Year was awarded to Joe Eadie of Springfield.

Worcester State finished in fourth place (337, 328, 665) while Westfield State came in last (376, 360, 736).
