Manchester Essex School Community Supports Essex Elementary School During ‘Happy as a Clam’ Fundraiser

ESSEX – Superintendent Pam Beaudoin and Principal Sheila McAdams share that the Manchester-Essex school community attended the 15th annual Happy as a Clam 5K Race, Walk, and Fun Dashes to support Essex Elementary School.

The event, held on Friday, September 15, featured a 5K walk, age-specific “Fun Dashes,” and a 5K run. Runners and walkers in the 5K events traveled the EES neighborhood escorted by the Essex Police Department and cheered on by EES staff and official mascot Clammy.

“Happy as a Clam” was started by EES parents in 2008 to motivate students to adopt healthy habits and to raise money for the school. Each year the event receives strong support from residents, businesses, organizations, and community partners. It has grown into the school’s major fundraiser, with all proceeds supporting enrichment, most field trips, guest arts instructors and more.

Students also received class-colored t-shirts that are worn during the event and throughout the school year for special activities. The class with the most participation is awarded the prestigious Clam Cup.

Superintendent Beaudoin and Principal McAdams thank Friends of Essex Elementary School and President Betsy McKeen for organizing the event again this year.

Superintendent Beaudoin and Principal McAdams also wish to recognize the Essex Police Department, Essex Fire Department, and Essex Board of Selectmen for their support each year.
