Mayor Verga Recommends Creation of City Ordinance for Free Veterans Parking in Gloucester

In advance of Veterans Day, Mayor Verga recommends a new City ordinance to eliminate parking fees for vehicles with Veterans license plates.

GLOUCESTER, Mass. – Mayor Greg Verga is  recommended the creation of a City Ordinance to allow individuals with a Veteran license plate to park for free at any on or off-street metered City parking space. Mayor Verga has submitted a memorandum to Gloucester City Council to encourage the development of an ordinance eliminating parking fees for vehicles with Veterans plates in Gloucester.

“This idea came directly from one of our local veterans that attends the Friday Veterans Coffees at Cape Ann Veterans Services,” said Mayor Verga. “This is a small gesture to express our gratitude for our veterans and their service, and it is my hope that this can be enacted by Veterans Day. I am grateful for Councilor Nolan’s collaboration and look forward to working with our City Council on this effort.”

The matter has been referred to the City Council’s Ordinance and Administration Standing Committee and will be discussed at their upcoming meeting on Monday, October 18th.
